On the first ~2.4 miles we will be hiking on a trail and through an open wash area. We will hike into Burro Canyon and eventually we will encounter the first chockstone on which we will scramble. There may be water below part of the chockstone, and there may be logs and rocks there to cross the water and easily ascend. We'll scramble up several other chockstones and possibly wade through shallow pools. When we have gone roughly 3.5 miles, we will stop, as the route will become too technical to continue. We will turn around and return to the trailhead. The slot canyon gets narrow in a few places. Participants with rock climbing and/or canyoneering experience will be given priority. Please sign up only if you 1) are OK with heights, 2) are OK with tight spaces, 3) have good balance and 4) don't have any recent medical or injury issues. A minimum group size of 4 will be required for this hike. I am limiting the group size to 6. Note that the goal is to hike 3.5 miles and then turn around for about 4-5 hours total. However, we could encounter an obstacle that will cause the group to turn around earlier than planned. If one person wants to turn around, then we'll all turn around.
Meeting place and time will be determined on the trip. You must be signed up for the WSG multi-day Capitol Reef National Park trip. Leader approval required to ensure that only trip attendees register.
