Capitol Reef National Park

Part of SE Utah's spectacular Red Rock Country, Capitol Reef National Park provides many outdoor recreation opportunities. It is filled with cliffs, canyons, domes, and bridges in the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic monocline (a wrinkle on the earth) extending almost 100 miles.

Capitol Reef National Park Visitor Center is at the intersection of UT-24 and Scenic Drive.  The Park's website has information on camping, hiking, entrance fees and maps.

The 71-site Fruita Campground is the only developed campground in Capitol Reef, and has a group camping area. There are two free remote campgrounds. The Park is open all year, and you can reserve a campsite, available only March 1- October 31, on Recreation.gov

AllTrails features a long list of the Park's hiking trails.

The historic Gifford House near the Fruita campground, offers handmade items and specialty jarred foods for purchase. The Gifford's highlight is its baked-daily, individual-sized fruit pies, served with fresh coffee. The pies are usually sold out by mid-morning.

Check the website daily for safety alerts and road closures. Heavy rains, even from far away, can cause sudden flooding, especially in canyons and washes.
