Hiking – East West Regional Trail

DOGGIE HIKE: We will hike a portion of the East West trail, from Red Tail Park to the Griggs Road trailhead and back. This is an easy trail, with an incline for the first .3 miles to Highlands Point, followed by gently rolling hills to Griggs Road. Hikers with and without dogs are welcome.

  • Mod A
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 4.4 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 350 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,300 ft
  • Pace: doggie casual (about 2 mph)

We will meet at Red Tail Park, 2674 Pemberly Ave., Highlands Ranch, CO 80126 at 8:45 for a 9:00 start. We will meet in the parking lot, which is above the fields. There is a bathroom at the park. We will walk to the trailhead for the Dad Clark trail, and then merge onto the East West Regional Trail. This trail is open, with no shade or wind protection. It peaks at Highlands Point, where there are beautiful views of Highlands Ranch Backcountry, the mountains, and Denver. We continue to the Griggs Road Trailhead, where there are porta-pots and picnic tables if we want to stop for a snack, before returning on the same trail.

Dogs must be leashed and under your control at all times. Please read the dog policy https://cmcdenver.org/groupresources/denver-group-dog-hikes-policy.

This part of the longer East West Regional Trail includes a short portion on a paved path and is mostly dirt and gravel. Come prepared for packed snow/ice and possibly some mud. You may need traction, especially on the incline/decline near the beginning/end of the hike. Be sure to bring plenty of water for you (and your dog) and dress warmly.
