East West Regional Trail

This is a 28-mile easy to moderate trail running from Redstone Park in Highlands Ranch to the Town of Parker. While there is approximately 200 feet elevation change from beginning to end, there are sections with moderate hills. It passes through grassland and oak bluffs, including the 1000 acre backcountry space in Highlands Ranch, and includes views of open space to the foothills as well as views of Denver and surrounding suburbs.

This is a grassland trail that is completely unsheltered, with no shade and no wind protection. In most areas it is a dirt and gravel trail, about 5 feet wide, and much of the trail is flat and easily accessible. However, there are also sections with rolling hills, requiring going up a moderate incline for short distances. The trail starts at the Redstone Park in Highlands Ranch and passes through Castle Pines and Lone Tree, ending in Parker, covering approximately 28 miles, one way. Sections in Highlands Ranch and Parker are maintained by local jurisdictions, with the rest of the trail maintained by Douglas County. The trail connects to many other trails, some of which are on private property and intended for use by home owner association members and guests. These private trails are well-marked.

The trail is open for use by bikes, horses, hikers, and leashed dogs. Parking is available at multiple points along the trail. Bathrooms are available at multiple parks through Highlands Ranch and Castle Pines, along the first 14 miles of the trail from the west, but are not currently available at trailheads on the 14 miles on the eastern section of the trail.
