Hiking – Fremont Peak - Royal Cascade Trail
A challenging early-season, lower elevation hike to Fremont Peak (7233') near Cañon City. Views from the peak are spectacular including the Arkansas River, Royal Gorge Bridge, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Pikes Peak and Canon City. Total mileage is expected to be 11 miles with 2800 feet elevation gain.

We'll follow the Tunnel Drive trail to Royal Cascade trail to the Fremont Peak trail and on to the summit. Total mileage is expected to be 11 miles with 2800 feet of elevation gain. These are well maintained trails.
Leader permission is required. If I have not hiked with you before, please contact me by text or email and let me know what similar hikes you have completed recently. If the trip fills, preference will be given to El Pueblo and Pikes Peak group members.
The upper part of the route is fairly exposed. and there is a chance of early afternoon thunderstorms in the forecast, so we will need to watch the weather closely. We'll have lunch at the summit, weather permitting.
Pueblo participants will meet for an 7:30 am departure at the intersection of South McCulloch Blvd West and Highway 50 in Pueblo West (38°20'31.6"N 104°46'10.6"W). Alternatively meet at the Tunnel Drive Trailhead, 205 Tunnel Dr, Cañon City, CO 81212 at 8:10. Please contact Rich Joy by text or email and designate where you will meet the group. Carpooling can be arranged at the meet-up location.
Required Equipment
In addition to the 10 essentials please be sure to bring plenty of water (2 liters recommended), rain gear, layered clothing for the unpredictable spring weather, lunch and snacks.
