Hiking – MacGregor Falls

We will enjoy this 6.4 mile, 974' gain hike from the Lumpy Ridge trailhead through pines/golden aspens and a large meadow as we cross through the MacGregor Ranch property on a conservation easement.  The working ranch was established in 1873.  Once past the ranch, we will enter the forest and follow the trail along Black Creek with pretty cascades, rocky terrain, and finally to the MacGregor Falls in Black Canyon.  Here we will have our lunch before returning along this same route to the TH.  Along the trail we will enjoy sweeping views of the Estes Park valley, Longs Peak, MacGregor Mountain, and many others. 

There are 3 meeting locations depending on where you are coming from:  1) JJ's Country Store, 4015 S. Taft Hill Rd., Ft. Collins (NE edge of lot) at 7:45 a.m.,  2) JAX, 2665 W. Eisenhower Blvd., Loveland (SE edge of lot) at 8:00 a.m.,  OR 3) Estes Park Visitor's Center, 500 Big Thompson Ave. (NW corner of lot) at 8:45 a.m.   From the Visitor Center, we will carpool to the Lumpy Ridge trailhead.  PLEASE let me know which meeting location you will be at (970-222-5920 or adwright2001@yahoo.com).  Rideshare from F.C. is $10.
