Hiking – Orbital Trail - Segment 7

For Rocky Mountain Over the Hill Gang members ONLY. We will hike segment 7 of the Denver Orbital Trail (DOT) – Chatfield State Park.

  • Mileage: 7.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 308 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,673 ft
  • Pace: Casual

The DOT is a walking route that makes a full circle around Denver.  (In case you are wondering, we are skipping Segment 5 & 6 for now as Deer Creek Canyon Park is closed due to damage from the Quarry fire.)

Due to construction on both ends we will be modifying the trail a bit.  The distance will be about the same as we will add distance on the beginning and stop a bit early.

Segment 7 starts in Chatfield State Park.  We will take the Platte River trail to the Chatfield Internal trail.  That  leads us around the reservoir and to the Chatfield Dam Trail that will take us over the dam.  Walking along the top of the dam will give us “incredible vistas of the mountains to the west and downtown Denver to the north.  We will continue around the reservoir and out of the park where we will meet up with the High Line Canal Trail.

NOTE: we will cross railroad tracks on this hike.

We will meet at 9:00am at Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply at 12154 N Dumont Way, Littleton, CO 80125.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/HZAs1mFaNxXH3Nqd8  We will carpool to our starting spot in Chatfield State Park.
