We will be camping at my family’s land near Westcliffe on Saturday, June 10th and then hiking 7 1/2 miles of the Rainbow trail on Sunday the 11th. Will be starting at the Alvarado campground and ending at the Gibson Creek trailhead.  (car shuttle)

Camp area has electricity, a porta potty, but no water.  You’ll need everything that you would need for car camping or backpacking.  There is a fire pit for grilling.  Let’s do a
potluck.  I’m bringing brats and buns. Call or text for what to bring so that we don’t have 5 salads and no dessert.
Breakfast foods on your own.

Hike is moderate with 1000 ft. elevation gain; however, due to sciatic nerve problems, I’m dropping enthusiastic hikers off at the Alvarado Campground and then driving up to Gibson Creek and hiking towards the group giving the possibility of very little mileage for me.  If you want to do something less than 7 1/2 miles, join me.

We will meet at 12:00 noon at my house, 5 Silverweed Ct., Pueblo.

Or at 1800 Rd. 192, Westcliffe at about 1:30.  If not meeting at my house, use a smartphone’s gps app to get there.

Be prepared for rain and bring the 10 essentials.  You will need a tent, pad, sleeping bag, breakfast, lunch, hiking boots, a jacket, and enough water for 7 1/2 miles.

As always, the trip starts at the trailhead.
