Let's meet at the parking lot for the Crags and Devil's Playground on County Road 62/Forest Service Road 383 at 8:30 am.
We'll start our hike to the Crags from the Crags parking lot. We'll cross the creek and head up the switchbacks on the new trail. At the junction with the Devil's Playground we'll keep to the left taking the Crags trail #664, hiking through forested areas and meadows north of Fourmile Creek. For the last half mile we'll head steeply up to the trail to the north to the rocks at the Crags. There will also be an option to scramble down through the rocks and return through the amphitheater on a social trail. Otherwise, we'll return via the same route. Please bring your ten essentials, including ample food, water, and rain gear.
Driving directions from Colorado Springs: Take Hwy. 24 west to Divide, Colorado. Turn left at the light in Divide onto Hwy. 67 south. Drive for approximately 3 1/2 miles south on Hwy. 67 passing by the Wesleyan Camp and Mueller State Park, turning left at the wooden Crags Campground sign on to County Road 62/Forest Service Road 383. Drive 3 1/2 more miles on this dirt road, passing the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp to the dirt parking lot at the Crags on the south side of the road opposite some outhouses. Park at this parking lot. If you go to the Crags Campground or the end of the road, you've gone too far.
****Parking will be very scarce and problematic at the Crags parking lot. I would highly suggest we carpool. We can meet at the Woodland Park Safeway at 8:00 am. Directions to Woodland Park Safeway, 1101 E. Highway 24. From Colorado Springs, please take Hwy. 24 West approximately 16 miles to Woodland Park. Turn left/south on Aspen Grove Way. I can meet you in the southeast corner of the parking lot near the Peak View BBQ.
