Hiking – Upper Limbaugh Canyon Out & Back
Let's visit the long-lost Upper Limbaugh Trail between Monument and Woodland Park! This is among the most beautiful canyons in the area and there's a good chance there will be plenty of wildflowers. Because of the condition of the trail, this hike will be more difficult than it might appear based on distance and elevation.

Because of the closure of the middle section of Mt Herman Road, we will be hiking the out & back from the western access point, which is the corner of FR320 and FR315, north of Woodland Park. Parking is limited at the trailhead, so we will rendezvous and carpool from the Red Rocks Safeway, 3275 West Colorado Ave, Colo Spgs, at 7:30AM
The tread on this trail has not been maintained for decades, so there is a steady outslope and sections that are steeper or more eroded than would be desirable. Involves squatting (or crawling) under two boulder passages and big steps up two rocks. Steep dropoffs along trail in places.
Given the large group, roughness of the trail, and many scenic points, the pace will not be all that fast. On the other hand, given those attributes... it may still seem fast! Possible side excursions if desired by group consensus; plan on an all-day hike.
Because of this, I've marked it as leader permission requested. I am also prioritizing it for Pikes Peak and El Pueblo Group members, along with members of Denver Group who live in Douglas County.
