Hike the double summits of Vasquez Peak. Lunch on the top. 360° views, Pettingell Peak, Byers & Bills Pks, James Peak. Pass through a small Bristlecone tree forest.

Good conditioning and altitude experience (~13,000') required. If any questions contact me. The distance may seem reasonable, but the 2,800 feet of gain can be very strenuous. The lower half of the route is on trail.

80 miles round-trip carpool. Mileage fee recommended $0.30 per mile divided by all persons in the vehicle.

The Hike: TH Henderson Mine CDT Spur Trail, (Butler Gulch parking). Travel E on CDT to the nose of the S ridge leading to Peak 12,707'. Climb ridge N to above tree line, then NW across an open basin to a saddle on the ridge. Turn W to Peak 12,900', then NNW along the ridge to Vasquez Peak (12,947') and return.

Be prepared for wind and rain. Bring warm layers for mountain weather. We travel about 1.5 miles (RT) on a West facing ridge exposed to the usual West winds at the 12,900' level.  Bring first aid kit, 10 essentials, snacks, lunch and ~2L water (water source usually available about half way up the peak).
