*****NO HARES PLEASE*****
PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS NOT A BEGINNING SNOWSHOE TRIP.
Let's meet at the Visitor Center Parking Lot at 9:30 am.
We'll hike southeast down the Rock Pond (#5) Trail, head north steeply up the Rock Canyon (#15) Trail, head east for a short time on the Geer Pond (#25) Trail, and east back up to the Visitor's Center on the Outlook Ridge (#7) Trail and the Revenuer's Ridge (#1) Trail. Some of the trails are old logging roads. Other trails may be somewhat narrow. This is a lovely snowshoe through forested areas, meadows with ponds, and interesting rock formations. There will be moderate elevation gain and loss on this snowshoe given the hilly terrain.
Please bring your ten essentials - including, but not limited to: snowshoes and gaiters, at least 2 liters of water, ample food, warm layers (windproof and water resistant), hat, gloves, and sunglasses. ***If there isn't adequate snow you might be able to just use microspikes/ice walkers.
Driving Directions from Colorado Springs: Go west on Hwy. 24 to Hwy. 67 in Divide, Colorado. Turn left (south) onto Hwy. 67. Drive south approximately 3 miles past the Wesley Ranch Camp and turn right (west) into the entrance road to Mueller State Park. (if you pass by the left hand turn off for the Crags Campground, you've gone too far south.) Please remember the entrance fee is $10.
If you wish to carpool, please let me know. I can be reached at sheindk@yahoo.com or 719-635-7720.
If participants wish, I can also lengthen this snowshoe by approximately 1 mile to include the Lost Pond (#11) Trail instead of the Outlook Ridge Trail. We can decide at the Visitor's Center, if everyone agrees.
