RMNP - Longs Peak

Trip

Mountaineering – RMNP - Longs Peak

NOTE: Much of this plan is a "work-in-progress", so expect flexibility. This is a plan to summit Long's Peak on either Thursday, Sept. 10th OR Friday, Sept. 11th (weather dependent). I'd like to ascend the Key Hole Route and hope to descend the Cables Route (though, we may descend the Key Hole. Proficiency in long alpine days, class 3 scrambling, and rappelling is required. Please email me if you are interested.

  • Denver
  • Mountaineering
  • Intermediate Alpine Climb
  • Adults
  • Difficult
  • Mileage: 14.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 14,259 ft
  • You must be a strong alpine hiker/scrambler (class 3) and be proficient in rappelling.
  • The registration closes on Monday, Sept. 7th. I will stay in close email contact with whoever signs up.
  • Once the registration is set, we will put together a short call to discuss the trip, weather, and carpooling. Also, be prepared to chip-in for vehicle entrance passes into RMNP (required in order for us to get in).
  • IF the weather poses a significant threat suggesting alternative plans, we may simply choose to climb Mount Lady Washington, right next to Longs, or some other 'safer' peak. We may even just cancel.
  • Note: Much of this plan is subject to change based on the unpredictable weather and group experience.
  • We are planning on climbing Longs on either Thursday, Sept. 10th OR Friday, Sept. 11th. The day we choose will be based on weather (much of this late August season has posed considerable thunderstorms). Regardless, we will likely meet somewhere to carpool (less cars for the TH) and then drive to the Longs Peak Trailhead around 12am to 2:00am and get to hiking (time will change based on weather).
