RMOTHG Trip – Mt. Wilcox

This 6 mile / 2200 ft gain loop hike to the top of Mount Wilcox takes us by three pristine alpine lakes and through tundra fields of summer wildflowers. We'll be hiking on Class 2 terrain – which includes tundra strolling, bushwacking through willows, and some rocky, talus sections. Magnificent views in all directions. Estimated time to complete: 5 hours.

Leader Notes:

Please asess your current aerobic / physical conditioning for spending about 5 hours hiking across uneven tundra and talus at high altitude while gaining 2200 feet of elevation. We'll be maintaining a steady moderate pace (1.5 – 2 mph average) with minimal stops.

Poles may be helpfuil while trekking through the uneven tundra and talus.

When deciding what to carry in my pack on a hike like this ... i ask myself:  Do I have what I need to stay warm & dry if i sprain my ankle or twist my knee up on the mountain, above treeline, in a cold rain or hail storm and wouldn't be able to get down for several hours or more?
