Scramble – Pettingell Peak via East Ridge
A good entry into (optional) class 4 scrambling. Pettingell Peak's east ridge offers excellent scrambling opportunities, with bypasses of the spicier class 4 terrain.

This is a difficult hike due to elevation gain, pace, and scrambling involved. My goal is to give newer (but not brand new) scramblers an opportunity to try out class 4 terrain, with a fallback to class 3 if needed.
This scramble requires my permission to sign-up. Please include recent, relevant class 3 scrambling experience in your request, along with recent hikes of similar duration and elevation gain. As we will be above tree line for part of the day, it is important that in addition to scrambling skills, your fitness levels are appropriate to maintain the desired pace so we can get off the peak before noon.
If I get co-lead for this trip, I will expand the participants by two.
Scrambles are typically quite popular trips. Please do not sign-up and take a spot if there is a chance you'll cancel last minute -- someone else likely wanted that spot.
We will meet at the Herman Gulch Trailhead at 0600.
For people coming from the front range, a suggested carpool meeting location is the Wooly Mammoth Park and Ride section BB at 0500 for a 0510 departure to make it to the meeting location on-time.
Required Equipment
A climbing helmet, in addition to the ten essentials. Approach shoes, or excellent hiking shoes you have scrambled with in the past. No trainers/sneakers, or worn out soles for safety. It is likely to be hot, and we will be above tree line, so excellent sun protection is also a must.
