We will hike La Plata on the standard northern route: https://trails.colorado.gov/trails/laplata-peak-20679. Please be ready to start hiking at 4:30am. With the 9.5 miles round trip and 4,000 feet of elevation gain, we hope to be back to the cars by 1pm or earlier. This is a class 2 peak with some scrambling at the top, so please review the route online: https://www.14ers.com/route.php?route=lapl1

All participants and leaders are REQUIRED to sign the State of Colorado's liability waiver. Please click here to fill out the waiver.

Participants will register for their preferred 14er through the Colorado Mountain Club website, where they will be placed on a waitlist for their chosen peak (you may join more than one waitlist). From there, trip leaders will reach out to gather more information about each participant's experience level and interests. For trips where the waitlist exceeds the allotted group size, participants will be selected by lottery.

  • Not sure which 14er to sign up for? Visit our Blog "So you want to hike a 14er?" for more details about selecting the right 14er for you!
  • Feel free to use information from 14er.com from to learn more about the trail and what to expect.

For questions about your trip, please reach out to your trip leader directly. For general questions about the Summit 2026 project or any relate event, please reach out to summit2026@cmc.org.

We will meet at the La Plata Trailhead at 4am on 8/1. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/MWpH9M72s3CATLqs8) Since the TH is right off the highway, it is easy to access with 2wd vehicles. There should be enough parking for everyone in our group (about 20 spots total). There is another trailhead up the road if we need to shuttle people. There is not a bathroom at the trailhead, so the last stop is in Twin Lakes at the visitor center (https://maps.app.goo.gl/M6RcgXcvMkXfeD3N6). People can also meet to carpool from Twin Lakes if they want.
