Chair Rocks via Colorado Trail

A moderate, 10-mile roundtrip, 885-ft elevation gain hike through open plains (1996 Buffalo Creek Fire burn area) to an interesting and scenic rock formation.

This hike starts at a parking lot where the Colorado Trail Section #2 crosses Deckers Road/Jefferson County Road 126 (just southwest of intersection with Spring Creek Rd) and goes out 5 miles to the Chair Rocks formation and then returns.  It is a very open and exposed space (sun/wind) with rolling hills the first 3-miles (1996 Buffalo Creek Fire burn area) before transitioning into forested area. Most of the hike is along the Colorado Trail Section 2 with slight ups and downs across gullies and wash areas.  Mountain scenery, wildflowers, and open pine forest entertains the hiker along the Colorado Trail until turning north off the trail (onto another trail) and  reaching the unique rock formations that make up the Chair Rocks. Scenic views include Buffalo Peak, Mount Evans, Long Scraggy Peak, Pikes Peak, the Cathedral Spires and others. There is no water along this trail, so be prepared.  It can be a HOT summer hike under the sun.
