Dawson Butte Open Space
Dawson Butte Ranch OS near Larkspur is popular year-round due to the mix of shade and sun throughout. There are numerous easy trail combinations, in both wooded areas and meadows.
The Ranch offers a great view of the Butte's stony face, which resembles a castle wall, and the slopes surrounding Castle Rock. There are restrooms at the Trailhead.
The Dawson Butte Loop makes use of most of the park's trails, with views of the Front Range mountains. Side trails offer variations. The trail crosses fields with expansive views before emerging beneath a stand of lodgepole pines. One stretch of the trail has some easy switchbacks and a small climb.
