Decatur Mountain via Shelf Lake
Moderate hike being 8.25 miles with 2750' gain. Decatur's summit is 12,890' and the TH about 10,000'. After gaining the summit, return to beautiful Shelf Lake. We'll see Argentine Pass to the north along with handfuls of 12'ers & 13'ers to the N & S.
Parking is at the South Park Trail (USFS #600) TH at the top of Guanella Pass. Follow the South Park Trail about .1 of a mile and turn left onto the Shelf Lake Trail (#634). This trail ascends to Shelf Lake (11,900'). From there it's about 1 mile and 1,000' to the summit.
