Highline Trail

The Highline trail runs 18.2 miles from US 96 3 miles west of Wetmore to the Oak Creek campground 15 miles up the Oak Creek grade road from Canon City, connecting the Lewis Creek trail (5 miles, 3000'gain) with the Lion Canyon trail (3 miles, 1500') via 10 miles of US Forest Service roads. Auto access to the area is via FS 274 or 304 off FS 271. 10,188' Adobe peak has 360 degree views from eastern plains to the Sangre de Cristo and further north.

Besides the hiking trails bracketing this area, a web of forest service roads and abandoned roads and trails provide miles of exploring this rugged area. Hardscrabble Pk, the highest in the area, is reached by cross-country. For an easy stroll, FS roads circle the Adobe peak area for 4.3 miles. Road access is closed in winter.
