Hourglass Couloir via Second Creek Trailhead

An easy to moderate snow climb ascending the Hourglass Couloir from the Second Creek Trailhead near Berthoud Pass.  It is a committing, technical route often accessed via the Second Creek drainage. [2, 3, 4, 5]

Descend from the saddle to the North of the couloir’s exit. Follow contours NW around the large bowl to a <30 degree sloped drainage, then follow the drainage ESE until connecting with Second Creek trail. 

Known for wind slabs, cornice fall, and frequent avalanches. always check with CAIC before attempting this climb.
