Kilpacker Trailhead

One entry point for the Kilpacker Basin and the Lizard Head Wilderness, which includes 14'ers El Diente Peak, Mount Wilson, and Wilson Peak.

This trailhead in the San Juan Mountains is accessed off Dunton Road CR-38.  It is  a starting place to access other, nearby trails or to head off-trail into the Lizard Head Wilderness.  

The "Wilson Massif"  refers to the group of three prominent peaks in the Wilderness:  Mount Wilson, Wilson Peak, and El Diente Peak. These peaks are known for their challenging climbs and stunning views, and they are often referred to collectively, especially when discussing the popular traverse between Mount Wilson and El Diente.

Alternative Titles:

Kilpacker Trail (#203) - RT 7.75 miles, 297' gain 

El Diente Peak (14,165') - El Diente is one of the steepest peaks in Colorado. As a result, it is considered one of the most challenging climbs among Colorado's fourteeners.

Mount Wilson (14,256') The highest summit of the San Miguel Mountains.  Mount Wilson should not be confused with the lower Wilson Peak nearby.
