Lizard Head Pass

Lizard Head Pass is a mountain pass in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. It's named after Lizard Head, a prominent nearby rock formation. It's located close to Telluride.

Lizard Head Pass (10,222 feet) offers hiking in the summer and XC skiing/snowshoeing in the winter.

State Highway 145 is paved and well maintained throughout the year. This makes it easily accessible for most passenger vehicles. There is a parking area with restrooms located at the summit of Lizard Head Pass.  The USFS has an extensive year-round description of the Lizard Head Pass & San Juan Skyways.  A good history of the area can be found here. The pass has its own conditions site here.

See the Telluride Nordic Association website for information on winter trails.
