Lone Pine Peak from South Blodgett Open Space Trailhead, area of very steep trail with lose scree until reaching the ridge, then hike through remnants of the 2012 Waldo Canyon fire before reaching the base of rocky Lone Pine Peak, class 2-3 scrambling on large stable rocks to gain the summit, amazing views of Pikes and Blodgett Peak, 6.9 miles, 2526', challenging hike.

Access the South Blodgett Loop Trailhead from the South Blodgett Open Space Parking lot. Hike South Blodgett Loop Trail to Wagon Wheel Trail to a portion of Douglas Fir Trail that are in South Blodgett Open Space managed by the City of Colorado Springs until entering Pike National Forest to follow Douglas Fir Trail to the ridge. Most of Douglas Fir Trail is very steep with challenging lose scree especially on the descent.  Once leaving the forested area of Douglas Fir Trail, the trail enters forest burned by the 2012 Waldo Fire. Continue to follow Douglas Fir Trail up to top of the ridge. Once gaining the ridge, hike a short distance on a well-established social trail with watching for a faint social trail that travels south in the direction of Lone Pine Peak. Follow the faint trail up to the right side of the rocky base of the peak. Use class 2 scrambling skills to ascend the right side of the peak by climbing large stable rocks. Look for an opening between the rocks that provides access to the west side of the peak. Continue climbing large rocks to the south before reaching a 1 to 2 step area of class 3 scrambling where you step across two rocks with use of a solid hand hold to reach the southwest side of the summit. Hike up a small portion of flat area of the summit before climbing two easily negotiated rocks to reach the high point of the peak. Can return to the well-established social trail, to hike to Ormes Peak that is an additional 2.8 miles and 700' gain one way.
