Meridian Peak via Elliott's Ridge
Meridian Peak is near the end of the Elliot Ridge Trail, providing panoramic views of the area including the Gore Range.
The Elliot's Ridge Trail (USFS #1889/1895.1) is an old double-track road that follows a broad ridge and enters the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area from the north, culminating at Meridian Peak (12411'). A high clearance vehicle is needed, but not a 4WD to access the Elliot's Ridge Trailhead.
Also known as the Meridian Peak Trail, this is an underused and highly rated trail in the Eagles Nest Wilderness, one hour drive north from Silverthorne. High alpine meadows and exposed rock exist throughout the area. The trail has little/no sun protection. AllTrails has an excellent trail description.
From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne/Dillon, and travel north on HWY 9 for approximately 27 miles into Grand County. Turn left onto Spring Creek Road, Grand County Road 10. Follow Spring Creek Road (GCR 10) for 6.8 miles and bear left at FDR 1830 (Doenz Place). After this intersection the road becomes FDR 23. Continue on FDR 23 for approximately 1.10 miles until the fork in the road. Take the right fork, FDR 23/1831, and travel approximately 5.39 miles to the trailhead and parking area.
