Pueblo Mountain Park

This Pueblo City Park is located outside the city of Pueblo, near the small town of Beulah. It protects a large swath of Ponderosa Pine forest and Gambel Oak scrub, and the higher parts of the park include mixed-conifer forest.

Details about park facilities, including trail information, can be found at the City of Pueblo website, at AllTrails, and at CoTrex

The park has some open rock areas that can get quite sun-baked, but also has some shady draws that allow some relief.  There are a multitude of bird species throughout the year and wildflowers spring and summer.  Trails are well defined and maintained with mixed surfaces of soil, rock, decomposed granite winding up through grassland and forest.  There are several places to stop and take in views of the Beulah Valley and east towards Pueblo and the eastern plains.

Some alternate titles:

Outer Loop - Starting at the Carhart Trailhead follow the Archery Range Trail, Northridge Trail, Devils Canyon Trail, Mace Trail, and back the Archery Range Trail to the Carhart TH - 6 miles, 700' gain.

Devil's Canyon Trailhead - Access to the Devil's Canyon, Northridge, and Mace Trails. Trail follows a creek bed that can be flowing during wetter seasons and down to a very small trickle found only at the pour-off during the dry season.

Mace Trail - The Mace Trail leads to several other trails to make much longer hikes and loops. This trail is rocky, has a mostly open southern exposure and can get quite hot in the summer, but also dries off more quickly in the winter and after rains.

Mace + Devil's Canyon - 2.25 miles, 459' gain

Mace + Northridge + Devil's Canyon - 4.5 miles, 859' gain

Devil's Canyon + Northridge - Devil's Canyon Trail intersects the Northridge trail on both ends, the first being only about 600 ft up the trail and the other 0.6 miles up the Devil's Canyon trail - 2.1 miles, 755' gain

Tower Trail -  This trail also connects up to the Mace Trail and thus other trails within the park to make loops, or the Ranger Trail leading into the San Isabel National Forest - 2 miles, 567' gain

Carhart Trail - In and out trail through old forests. This trail provides an access route through the Pueblo Mountain Park to Squirrel Creek trail #1384 as well as a trail for mountain biking.  This is the only MTB trail in the park - 3.6 miles, 338' gain.  See also  Trailforks.

Carhart, Squirrel Creek, Cascade Trail Out & Back - Starts outside the Pueblo Mountain Park at the Archery Range Trailhead parking lot and then enters Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah following Carhart Trail to Squirrel Creek.  The hike then goes into Squirrel Creek Canyon crossing Squirrel Creek into San Isabel National Forest following the Squirrel Creek Trail with multiple easy-to-navigate water crossings. At a right-hand turn of Squirrel Creek Trail, the hike then goes off trail to follow the remnants of the lower portion of Cascade Trail that parallels cascading water falls when Squirrel Creek is running full.  9 miles, 1700' gain.
