RMNP - Timber Lake Trail

This trail is an access point to the Timber Creek area camping sites including Timber Creek, Jackstraw, and Snowbird.

Note: RMNP restricts usage, parking, and entry depending on season and trailhead location. See the CMC Trip Planning Guide with a compact list of parking and entry requirements, permitting, and guidance. More general and contact information can be found at the RMNP website.

Note: The first 2.5 miles of the trail contain an active landslide area that requires a brief, moderate scramble. Before you head out, be sure to check with the park's Wilderness Office for current trail conditions and seasonal road closures. 
The Timber Lake Trailhead is on the west side of the Continental Divide between Grand Lake and Milner Pass. Timber Lake Trail passes through forests and meadows to reach the open area at Timber Lake. Follow Highway 34 (Trail Ridge Road) either 10 miles north of the Kawuneeche Visitor Center or 7 miles south of Milner Pass.

Along the trail are three campsites.

Timber Creek Campsite - 4.3 miles, 2118' gain

Rockslide Campside - 3 miles, 1387' gain

Snowbird Campsite - 4.5 miles, 2260' gain

Timber Lake - 10.8 miles, 2271' gain  

Jackstraw Mountain (11,693') -  About a mile northwest of the Rockslide Campground. There is no official trail to the summit.
