San Carlos Trail and San Carlos Road
San Carlos Trail (FS 1320) and San Carlos Road (FSR 320). This combined route covers a mostly easy up-and-down 6 miles. The 2.25-mile San Carlos trail is short and steep; FSR 320 winds up and down for 3.5 miles. A side trail (FSR 326) can take you to a natural arch on the Little St. Charles creek.
The San Carlos trail runs through the Wet Mountains from CO 78, across the St. Charles river and up to DSR 320, thence to the Old San Isabel road. San Carlos trail drops 350' from Klipfel Meadows on CO 78, crosses Willis Creek & St. Charles river, then climbs steeply .5 mile to FSR 320 (sometimes known as San Carlos road). It is 3.5 miles from this trailhead to its other end at Old San Isabel road. 4WD is recommended; the road crosses private property in places.
