Sheep Mountain

Sheep Mountain was an area for miners and an interesting historical deep tunnel mine will be found on your ascent. The route is 9 miles round trip and 2,218ft elevation gain. The summit is 11,700 ft. The summit sports breath taking views of Horseshoe Mountain and other peaks nearby.

The trail begins on the west end of the Horseshoe Campground south of Fairplay. It begins ascending up an old mining road through aspens.  Above tree line one can find remnants of old mines and digs. Near the summit the trail seems to disappear and then it is found again right near the summit.
