Silver Plume

The town is a fun visit and a gateway to the Georgetown Loop Railroad.  Get information at Silver Plume.

Alternate titles:

Pavilion Point. This trail follows the old Argentine Central Railroad Grade, and is popular for cross-country skiing, hiking, and horseback riding.  It climbs up to the ruins of an old community dance hall.  The TH is on the south side of I-70, (across the underpass from the town and take a right on Mountain Street, CR-330 away from the Georgetown RR, until its end).  Parking is along the street or at the mouth of the trail but stay away from the residence. - 5.6 miles, 997' gain

Leavenworth Mtn (11,066') - Sometimes called McClellan Mtn. Follow the Argentine Central Railroad Grade to Pavilion Point then turn right and head up a very long ridge to Leavenworth Mtn. Return on same route. - 8 miles, 2500' gain

Silver Plume Mountain (12,457') - This challenging hike starts at the end of Silver Street in Silver Plume and follows the historic 7:30 Mine Trail to its end, past mining ruins and the Griffin Monument. It then crosses the creek running through Brown Gulch, ascends an old trail parallel to the creek, and exits northwest up steep slopes to the summit. The summit is the top of a peanut-shaped boulder; it may take a 4th class move to touch the top - 8 miles, 3200'.

The hike may be extended to include nearby Sherman (12,300') and Republican (12,323') Mountains.
