Snow Peak
Gore Range 13er with stunning views of Valhalla and Grand Traverse Peak. Class 3 Scramble. Mileage: 12.8 miles. Elevation Gain: 4,700ft. Summit: 13,024'.
The Gore Creek Trailhead is located 2.3 miles east of Exit #180 off I-70 on Bighorn Rd on the east side of Vail. Continue east down Bighorn Road 2.3 miles to the parking area. Limited parking available, restricted times Winter/ Spring. The Gore Creek /Deluge Lake split is approx. 0.1 mile from the TH, go west at the split. The trail is narrowly cut, overgrown in many places, careful attention after a strenuous climb will bring you to a point at approx. 11,100ft and 3.7 miles from the TH, here you go slightly south east to gain Snow Pks SW ridge. Route finding is key to maintain the Class 3 route on loose rock with significant exposure. From the summit of Snow at 13,024 ft descend the north ridge to the saddle above Snow Lake. The descent to the saddle comprises of loose rock but can be kept at Class 2. Travel west and then south to regain the trail on Gore Lake (11,414ft ) lakes east side. Higher up the trail may be faint, washed-out or snow-covered in places. The trail enters dense lodgepole at 2.45 miles from the TH., followed by some talus and scree along the path. This time go east at the split of The Gore Creek /Deluge Lake trail.
