The Palisade
The prominent mesa that towers to the North over Gateway, CO. The namesake of the Palisade Wilderness Study Area.
A dramatic red-rock mesa-like formation with vertical cliffs, locatedi n Mesa County near the Utah border, adjacent to the town of Gateway. Located in the Palid=sade Wilderness Study Area.
Often seen, seldom visited. The "scramble" is approached from the river road to the west. Climbing routes are approached from closer to town, to the south.
Because this is a Wilderness Study Area, it is managed to preserve its "primeval character". There is no developed trail system. Visitors are expected to have advanced backcountry skills and detailed maps to navigate the remote terrain. No permits are required for individual recreationalists. Information available at the BLM Grand Junction Field Office, 2815 H Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506. Phone: (970) 244-3000, Email: blm_co_gj_web_mail@blm.gov
