Thorodin Mountain

Thorodin Mountain 10,540'. This rock formation is just outside the northern border of Golden Gate State Park with a prominence of 1480.' The access trail starts in GGSP but the Mountain is in the USFS Roosevelt Forest. The top offers exceptional views.

The "Thorodin Mountain Trail" is not on maps and is not an official GGSP Trail. The trail starts in GGSP north of where Mule Deer Trail crosses Gap Road and is signed to lead to the Hansen Guest House.  But at about 39.87405, -105.42936, the trail splits and the left trail is Thorodin Trail. Step over a few small blocking logs and follow a well-used, steep trail all the way to the summit. However, once the rocks are reached it is easy to lose the trail. There are well-placed cairns along the way so if you miss a cairn, go back and find the prior cairn.

There is no parking on the road. Best alternative is the parking area near the back of Tremont Mountain at 39.521817, -105.254222.  Then walk downhill/SSE a bit to Mule Deer Trail, turn right and follow that around and across Gap Road to the trail junction.

Once at the base of the mountain there are good scrambling and easy climbing opportunities across its numerous prominences.

Bring a helmet because there is much deadfall and many low tree branches all around the boulders making up the mountain.
