Upper Eardley Canyon, San Rafael Swell, Utah
Eardley Canyon is part of the Eastern Reef area in the San Rafael Swell. It is deep walled, lush in spots, with vibrant colors.
Start at the Eardley Canyon TH off Hwy 24. The canyon can be done as an out-and-back as you determine or all the way through as a shuttle hike (7 miles, 2100’ descent). Some scrambling in a couple of spots but nothing technical. Soon after the TH, one can turn into Straight Wash, which is frequented by canyoneers, but the remainder of the canyon is infrequently traveled and pristine. The middle section between the upper and lower can be a bit of a slog, with much boulder-hopping.
