Ute Trail-RMNP
The Ute Trail can be accessed from either end, with an elevation gain of 1,037 feet. This trail offers expansive views and alpine tundra scenery without a lot of climbing. All above tree line.
Note: RMNP restricts usage, parking, and entry depending on season and trailhead location. See the CMC Trip Planning Guide with a compact list of parking and entry requirements, permitting, and guidance. More general and contact information can be found at the RMNP website. Be sure especially to check for any wildlife closures.
The 4-mile one-way Ute Trail can be accessed from either the RMNP Alpine Visitor Center (11,796) or Milner Pass (10,759). The higher half of the trail, near the Visitor Center, passes through alpine tundra with chances to see pikas and marmots, and is exposed without tree cover. This part of the hike provides great vistas of the Never Summer Mountain range and the Cache la Poudre river valley below. The lower half of the trail, closer to Milner Pass and the Continental Divide, features subalpine firs and spruces. Hikers can either do a shuttle to avoid hiking back, or just retrace their steps. There are restrooms at the Visitor Center.
