Wellington Lake Campground

Located near Bailey, Colorado, Wellington Lake offers private lakeside camping with stunning views of The Castle rock formation. The area provides easy access to paddling, fishing, and hiking trails in the Lost Creek Wilderness. Anglers can fish for Rainbow, Brown, and Cutthroat Trout. Great for families, the campground offers a peaceful, scenic retreat less than two hours from Denver.

Wellington Lake is a privately owned campground and lake, operated by Castle Mountain Recreation, offering scenic camping just outside of Bailey, Colorado. Set around a 167-acre alpine lake, it’s a favorite for paddling, trout fishing, and hiking with dramatic views of The Castle rock formation. It’s not managed by the U.S. Forest Service but borders the Pike National Forest and is close to Lost Creek Wilderness.

The campground has over 100 campsites including drive-in, walk-in, and group sites. Lakeside and wooded options are available.

Nearest towns: Bailey, Pine, Conifer

Amenities: Picnic tables, fire pits, vault toilets, potable water at select locations, boat ramp. No hookups.

RV/Tents: Most sites accommodate tents or small RVs (under ~20–25 feet). No hookups or dump stations.

Driving: From Golden – approx. 55 miles / 1.5–2 hrs. Take US-285 south to Bailey, turn southeast on County Road 68, follow signs to the lake.

Fees: Campsites range from $28–$55 per night depending on site type and location. Group and lakeside sites cost more. Carpool estimate: ~110 miles × $0.30 ÷ 3 = $11
