Wilson Mesa Trailheads
4WD access trailheads near Telluride accessing Lizard Head Wilderness and Uncompahgre National Forest. Great views of Mt Wilson and Wilson Peak.
These are the primary access points for the Wilson Mesa Trail (#421), which runs between the Wilson Mesa TH East (at the end of San Miguel CR 622) and West (at the end of CR 623) in the Sunshine Mesa/Fall Creek area. There are many trails in the area and many trail combinations. See CoTrex, AllTrails, and Trailforks.
The trails offer dramatic views of the Wilson Group (Mt. Wilson, Wilson Peak). There are lots of open meadow sections through grassy fields along with some steeper and rockier parts. The access roads are steep and require a high-clearance vehicle.
