Oct 29 - Beyond Motivation: What Keeps Us Going When Goals Stop Working (starts at 6pm)

RSVP HERE

Drawing on more than 20,000 miles of long-distance hiking and over 100 original interviews with thru-hikers, Savannah Schuring explores how motivation changes over time and why adaptability often matters more than willpower.

Through personal stories and insights from her research, Savannah examines what happens when goals lose their appeal, progress slows, and the strategies that once worked no longer do. She challenges conventional ideas about perseverance, revealing how identity, expectations, and human connection influence our ability to keep going--and why sometimes persistence requires changing our approach rather than simply pushing harder.

Nov 5 - A Route to More Engaged Adult Learners (starts at 6pm)

RSVP HERE

Think of some of the learning experiences you have had as an adult. Which ones were good? Which ones were not? Above all, which ones gave you the most knowledge? This course will convey some easy to remember tips and tricks for engaging adult learners. It has ideas that can be applied by both classroom instructors and trip leaders. After the class your audience will retain more, while both leaders and participants will have more fun.

Nov 17 - The Power of Giving Back: Where Leadership meets Stewardship (starts at 6:30pm)

RSVP HERE

Leadership in the outdoors is about more than reaching a summit—it’s about creating experiences that are safe, fun, and successful for everyone in the group. When we bring stewardship into leadership, we extend that same spirit of care to the trails, lands, and communities that make our adventures possible. In this session, we’ll explore how small choices by each leader can inspire a culture of giving back that strengthens both our community and the wild places we love.

Dec 1 - Beyond the Piton: Technology is Reshaping Risk in the Outdoors (starts at 6pm)

RSVP HERE

Technology is changing the way we plan and experience outdoor activities - both in positive and problematic ways. In this session, Mountaineers CEO Tom Vogl, will share his personal experience and observations as a climber, backcountry skier and avalanche instructor. He has also been studying how the explosion of user-generated digital content and AI-driven search results is increasingly impacting risk management in the outdoors - sometimes in dangerous and deadly ways.

Come learn how you can incorporate these learnings into your own outdoor toolboxes, especially as you plan and lead courses and trips as an outdoor educator.
