Since the launch of CMC.org in 2022, the Colorado Mountain Club team has been actively collecting feedback from members, volunteers, and staff on how to improve the website's navigation and usability. That hard work is about to pay off — a significant update is scheduled to go live on March 23rd, 2026.

Here's a preview of what's changing and what it means for you:

Two New Headers: "About Us" and "Community"

The centerpiece of this update is the addition of two new top-level navigation headers on the main page: About Us and Community. These additions mean that all four of CMC's core pillars are now prominently displayed right on the front page, making it easier than ever for new visitors and longtime members alike to understand what the club is all about at a glance.

Members & Volunteers Moved to the Collapsible Menu

One of the more notable structural changes is the relocation of the Members and Volunteers sections. These have been moved into the collapsible menu on the left side of the screen, rather than occupying space in the main navigation.

The reasoning is that this content is geared toward people already familiar with CMC, members who know what they're looking for. By moving it to the collapsible menu, the main navigation stays focused on welcoming new visitors and highlighting the club's core activities. Important links in this section are still accessible throughout the website and in emails sent to new members, so nothing is lost and it's just better organized.

Volunteer Leader Resources in One Place

For trip leaders and course instructors, the updated collapsible menu is especially useful. All volunteer leader resources are now consolidated in one location, including:

  • How to schedule and manage activities
  • Activity standards documentation
  • Access to the Volunteer Leadership Manual

No more hunting through multiple pages. Everything a leader needs is right there.

A Better Way to Find Trips: Faceted Search

Under the Education & Adventure section, the update encourages members to use the new faceted search to discover trips. This powerful search tool lets you filter by:

  • Region
  • Trip difficulty
  • Activity type
  • And much more

The search also lets you toggle between a list view and a map view. The map view is a fantastic new way to visually explore where trips and activities are happening across Colorado.

The Calendar Is Easier to Find

The events calendar has always been a popular feature on CMC.org, and it's not going anywhere. What is changing is how easy it is to find. A new shortcut has been added under the Events menu, making the calendar more accessible with fewer clicks. From there, members can see all upcoming activities, courses, and events happening within the club.

When Do These Changes Go Live?

The updates are currently live on the CMC testing website. The official rollout to CMC.org is scheduled for March 23rd, 2026. If you'd like a sneak peek before then, keep an eye out for any preview links shared by the CMC team.

A Note of Thanks

This update is the result of years of listening; to members, volunteers, and staff who took the time to share their feedback. The Colorado Mountain Club is committed to continuously improving the website experience for everyone, whether you're a first-time visitor exploring what CMC is all about or a seasoned trip leader managing your next adventure.

Thank you for your continued support and leadership with the Colorado Mountain Club. We look forward to sharing the improved CMC.org with you on March 23rd.
