PPG BMS BASIC ROCK CLIMBING EQUIVALENCY WAIVER Field Day – Red Rock Canyon Open Space
This is a skills test for experienced climbers to waiver out of PPG BMS Basic/Intermediate Rock Climbing to gain access to trips and advanced classes. This is NOT a skills refresher. We expect you to show up and demonstrate proficiency in all of the skills we teach in our PPG BMS Basic/Intermediate Rock Climbing Class.

You’ll be expected to demonstrate:
- Basic climbing knots
- How to use a climbing helmet, harness, and belay device
- How to tie into the rope
- How to top rope belay using Pull-Brake-Under-Slide (PBUS) method
- How to use climbing commands
- How to rappel
- How to ascend/descend a rope with a prusik
- How to coil a climbing rope

We will meet at the trailhead at the end of the farthest, southeast parking lot in RRCOS at 4 pm. There will be a general climbing trip in RRCOS prior to this waiver session from 1 pm to 4 pm, and waiver participants may also join this trip.

Required Equipment
Required Equipment: Climbing helmet, climbing shoes, harness, locking carabiners, PAS or slings for rappel extension, rappel back-up loop, 2 Prusik cords for rope ascending, and belay/rappel device. Club will supply climbing ropes and anchors. All climbers must complete the annual climber registration for the Colorado Springs Parks online- https://coloradosprings.gov/parks/webform/rock-climbing-permit
