Our January book is "Tallgrass" by Sandra Dallas
19 ( 20 capacity)

"Tallgrass" by Sandra Dallas is a historical fiction novel set during WWII, focusing on a Colorado family whose lives are upended by the nearby Japanese American internment camp, Amache (called "Tallgrass" in the book). Told from the perspective of 13-year-old Rennie Stroud, the story explores themes of prejudice, fear, and change as the community grapples with the arrival of the internees, especially after a local girl is murdered and suspicion falls on the newcomers. It's a coming-of-age story that blends historical events with a mystery, examining the human heart during a time of national crisis.
