Ascending Hikes – Coffintop Mountain from Button Rock TH
This rugged out-and-back hike takes you from the low-lying canyon along North Saint Vrain Creek up into the secluded backcountry of Roosevelt National Forest to the summit of Coffintop Mountain (8,049 ft.). Starting at the Button Rock Trailhead, you begin on Longmont Dam Road before ascending either the Sleepy Lion Trail. From there, the route leaves the designated park maintenance trails and follows an unmaintained, off-trail social route up the forested northeast ridge to the summit of Coffintop Mountain (6.8 miles, +-2,199 ft.).
