The trail leads north following an old road along Gordon Creek past foundations remaining from homesteads established between 1911 and 1925. The trail follows the curves of Gordon Creek with multiple stream crossing with good log bridges to cross. We will hike up the forested gulch, along the creek’s edge.  At the two mile mark there is a fork in the trail. We will continue counter clockwise around the ~4 mile loop which continues north and winds through a narrow canyon with many stream crossings with log bridges before heading uphill out of the creek drainage into a meadow.  We will have a lunch/snack break in the meadow.  We will continue along the loop with good views of the Front Range.  Once we loop around the trail and meet back at the circuit’s intersection, we will retrace the trail down Hewlett Gulch all the way back to the trailhead. Our pace will be comfortable for all participants.  Total distance is ~8 miles with 1,100 feet elevation.

Members can jump in at any time on these Ascending Hikes.  You do not have to be on the first or second trip to go on this trip or any subsequent trips.

The Colorado Mountain Club's Ascending Hike Section (AHS) provides an opportunity to make new friends and explore new places in Colorado's backcountry, while increasing your personal hiking speed, strength, and stamina. The section is administered by CMC volunteers. There is no cost, fee, or scheduling commitment. Open to all CMC members.
