Snow Rangers

Protect Winter Landscapes - Support Human Powered Recreation

As backcountry skiing explodes in popularity, it is more important than ever to have an education and enforcement presence in the Colorado mountains to help ensure safe and responsible recreation.

The CMC Snow Ranger program supports the U.S. Forest Service in patrolling, visitor education, user counts, partnership development and more. Professional Snow Rangers engage with backcountry users from December through April with a goal of mitigating environmental impacts and user conflict in high-use and remote winter recreation areas.

In 2022, the Snow Ranger Program was featured in the Backcountry Film Festival shown across Colorado and the country.  Watch the full film to learn more about their work!
