Ascending Hikes – White Ranch Park

Enjoy scenic views of the front range communities as we traverse the Rawhide Trail. Traction control devices - microspikes, nanospikes, Yaktrax - are required for the snow packed and icy trail conditions. Highly recommend bringing gaiters as we will go off trail for extended segments.

-1) COVID-19 Activity Note:

  • I shall bring some N95 face masks to the CMC parking lot. for those that are not fully vaccinated/boosted or are otherwise immunocompromised.
  • Please inform me if you are not fully vaccinated and boosted so as to make allowance for your personal safety and enjoyment of the hike.

-2) This hike is an introduction to basic map and compass skills. I shall send everyone a map of the area to make better sense of the day's activities. 

-3) Leader may change hike location to another Jefferson County Open Space Park - Alderfer/Three Sisters, Matthews-Winters, Mount Evergreen - based on rolling closures by the open space authorities due to muddy trail conditions.

-4) We will return to the Colorado Mountain Club by 2:30pm in order to allow everyone to get home ahead of the rush hour traffic.

Meet at the Colorado Mountain Club, Satellite Parking Lot, 710 10th Street, Golden, CO 80401 at 7:30am, form carpools, and depart by 7:45am for White Ranch Park, West Trailhead, 25373 Belcher Hill Road, Golden, CO 80403.

  • Navigation - map and compass
  • Headlamp
  • Sun protection - clothing, sun glasses, sun screen
  • First aid kit
  • Knife plus a gear repair kit
  • Fire (first time, every time)
  • Shelter - sleep system (ground cloth, ground insulation, shelter from elements)
  • Extra food
  • Extra water
  • Extra clothes (for overnight emergency or change in weather conditions)
