I plan to lead this Handies Peak hike within 1-hour after arriving at the Silver Creek/Grizzly Gulch trailhead on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. I shall take into consideration the weather conditions in determining whether to lead this summit attempt. Regardless, I shall lead the hike up Sunshine - Redcloud Peaks in the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
4:00AM: MEET Wooly Mammoth CDOT PNR, Section BB, 18560 U.S. Highway 40, Golden, CO 80401 4:15AM: Form carpools and depart for the Silver Creek/Grizzly Gulch trailhead. We'll make stops along the way at Fairplay, Salida, and Lake City, CO. HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE preferred to negotiate Hinsdale County Road 30 to the trailhead. Expect to bring $40.00 CASH to reimburse driver for mileage.
