Handies Peak
Handies Peak (14,058') is found just past Lake City along with two other 14'ers, Sunshine and Redcloud Peaks, and all three can be done in a weekend trip.
The three peaks, Handies (14,058'), Sunshine (14,004'), and Redcloud (14,037') are located within the Handies Peak Wilderness Study Area (WSA), a technical step toward obtaining a Wilderness Area designation, and managed in a similar manner. Redcloud and Sunshine have their own Route & Place together.
Alternate Titles:
The standard route is up the Southwest Slopes, from the American Basin TH - 7.75 miles, 2800' gain - Class 1
The East Slopes from the Silver Creek/Grizzly Gulch TH - 8 miles, 3650' gain - Class 2
The West Slopes (snow climb in spring) from the American Basin TH - 5 miles, 2800' - class 2. If you can drive further up the road you can cut the distance.
