Trip
Backpack – Abyss Lake TH - Abyss Lake Trail to Abyss Lake
Abyss Lake is nestled in a high glacial cirque between Mount Bierstadt and Mount Blue Sky. This route begins by following an old logging road to an intersection with the Rosalie Trail. This section also parallels Scott Gomer Creek for several miles, passing wetlands and beaver ponds. After about 2-2.5 hours, we will reach the picturesque Helms Lake. The trail continues through the willows, then westerly across the tundra to Abyss Lake where we will make camp for the night. Day one we will complete 8.4 miles there aiming to start around 9:15 at the trailhead. On day two we will eat breakfast and aim to depart around the same time towards the trailhead.
