Backpack – BPX 3-Day: Colorado Trail - Segment 3 from the Little Scraggy TH
Colorado Trail Segment 3 starts at the Little Scraggy TH and travels 12.2 miles through fir and pine forest and over multiple streams in Pike National Forest to the Rolling Creek TH. This will be a leisurely, casual-paced early season backpack which, for some, may serve as a gear check for longer, more difficult trips. The relatively low-elevation terrain is more gentle than on most of the CT, but there are occasional ascents and descents.

TBD; carpools will be arranged from the Denver-area and/or elsewhere depending on where trip members live.
As this point-to-point route requires a shuttle, please let me know if you are available to drive.
Additionally, Little Scraggy TH has a fee per vehicle per day. This cost will be shared by all participants, since everyone benefits from the shuttle. "Fees are payable by check or money order. The Interagency Senior Pass and the Interagency Access Pass qualifies for a 50% discount with proper ID for the card holder’s vehicle only."

Trip participants must have prior, recent backpacking experience (at least one two night trip) in Colorado, and have your system dialed in. Few people have a perfect system, but you need to be familiar with and comfortable with your gear. Please email the trip leader if you are uncertain whether or not this trip is a good fit for you.

And here is our tentative itinerary:
Day 1 – Starting at the Little Scraggy TH, hike 5.1 miles nd 770 feet vertical west on Colorado Trail (CT) Segment 3 to Tramway Creek and camp. (7,834 ft to 7,797 ft).
Day 2 – Hike 6.8 miles and 1,175 vertical west on CT Segment 3 to a good campsite with a stream. (7,797 ft to 8,127 ft).
Day 3 – A very short hike (0.3 mile) to the Rolling Creek TH. Spreading the trip over 3 days allows a more moderate pace, with more time to pack up, complete the shuttle, and get home. We will plan to arrive at Rolling Creek TH by no later than noon. (8,127 ft to 8,279 ft).
