Backpack – BPX 3-Day: Lawn Lake from Lawn Lake TH (RMNP)

3 day, 2 night backpack to Lawn Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. We will also day hike to Crystal Lake and possibly up to the saddle above Crystal Lake. Views of Mummy, Fairchild Mountains & Hagues Peak. You do NOT have to be a BPX member.

Day 1Hike up the Lawn Lake Trail 5.25 miles to an intersection with the Upper Black Canyon Trail.  Stay left and continue up the Upper Lawn Lake Trail to the lake.  (6.2 miles, +2,600 / -90 ft.). Set up camp in 1 of 4 designated sites north of the lake for 2 nights.

Day 2: Day hikes to Crystal Lake and the saddle about Crystal Lake (5.3 miles RT & 1,625 ft elevation gain)

Day 3: Break camp and hike back to the Lawn Lake TH (6.2 miles, + 90 / -2,600 ft.)

Overall Route: 12.4 miles, +-2,700 ft. plus additional 5.2 miles & 1,625 ft for day hike.

NOTE: RMNP requires approved bear canisters (i.e. BV (Bear Vault)  series canisters). Simply hanging food bag is NOT acceptable. Yes, the Rangers do check. There are stiff fines for noncompliance! Also, RMNP is under Stage 2 fire ban. Propane or butane stoves only. No wood burning or liquid fuel stoves allowed.

Fishing is allowed at Lawn Lake with valid Colorado Fishing License. It is your responsibility to know fishing regulations with RMNP.

We will meet in Fort Collins at NW corner of Target parking lot (College & Troutman). We will also have meeting location at Estes Park Visitor Center in Estes Park.

RMNP requires approved bear canisters (i.e. BV (Bear Vault)  series canisters). Simply hanging food bag is NOT acceptable. Yes, the Rangers do check. There are stiff fines for noncompliance! Also, RMNP is under Stage 2 fire ban. Propane or butane stoves only. No wood burning or liquid fuel stoves allowed.

Everyone is also required to have the 10 essentials.
